STEPS

Grate cheddar cheese with a grater.

Transfer the grated cheddar cheese to a plate.

Peel and chop garlic.

Grate nutmeg with a grater.

Peel potatoes with a peeler.

Slice potatoes thinly.

Grease a baking dish with 1 tbsp of margarine. Scatter garlic onto the dish and lay a third of the potato slices in the dish. Sprinkle an eighth tsp salt, an eighth tsp black pepper, and a third tsp ground nutmeg on top. Repeat these layers two more times.

Combine milk and cream in a bowl with a whisk to get a milk mixture.

Preheat the oven to 350°F for 12-15 minutes.

Scatter grated cheddar cheese over the baking dish and cover it with aluminium foil. Put it in the oven for 10 minutes, then take it out and remove the foil. Put it back in the oven and bake for 15 more minutes.
